This is the month leading up to the fall feasts. A time to prepare the Bride to get ready to meet her King.
Song of Solomon 6:3 - I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine. He browses among the lilies.
Elul is known as “the month of preparation.”
It is to be a time of introspection.
This is a time to pause and consider our ways, to set goals for personal improvement for the coming year.
In fact, the Hebrew root of the word shofar rpwc H7782 is the word shaper rpc H8231 which means to “glisten”, “cause to be fair, goodly”, “to improve.”
Many will daily sound a shofar. Reminding them to look inward to discover what is needed for improvement.
It is the sound of The King’s Voice calling us out to the field to meet with Him.
In the book of Ester we read about the protocols when it comes to approaching the King. But when the King is in the field there are no protocols.
The King is in the field because that is where the people are.
They were harvesting and preparing the fields for the next season.
Proverbs 10:5 Know the importance of the season you’re in and a wise son you will be. But what a waste when an incompetent son sleeps through his day of opportunity!
We are entering a season of change.
It is important to know what season we are in.
We need to adjust, embrace the change.
God is ushering us into a strangely new and wonderful season.
A season of fulfillment of prophetic words.
A season of stepping boldly and powerfully into our divine destiny.
A season of shifts in direction, in focus, in purpose.
A season of making greater impact.
A season filled with endless possibility.
And yet it is vastly different from any season we have experienced, requiring greater levels of discernment and of discipline, of worship and of warfare and of work!
Song of Solomon 2:11-12 The season has changed, the bondage of your barren winter has ended, and the season of hiding is over and gone. The rains have soaked the earth and left it bright with blossoming flowers. The season for singing and pruning the vines has arrived. I hear the cooing of doves in our land, filling the air with songs to awaken you and guide you forth.
If we are to fully benefit from all this season has to offer, if we are to be and do all that God has purposed for us, we have to know what season we are in and adjust every aspect of our lives–spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically—to align with the changed season. Here are some things which may help us do just that…
Reassess: In light of all God is speaking now, we need to look carefully at every aspect of our life. Re-evaluate everything–our spiritual life, our relationships, our finances, our health. Look at how we utilize our time, our talents, our treasure (resources).
Repent: Teshuvah in Hebrew means “to return, to turn.” It is a season of returning to the King.
Teshuvah is one of the great gifts God gives each of us – the ability to turn back to Him and seek healing for our brokenness.
Repentance is all about changed thinking.
The Greek word – metanoia – literally means a “different mind.” We must adopt a different mindset. If we enter a new season with the same thinking we’ve had in seasons passed, nothing will change. A change in thinking results in a change of behavior.
Act 3:19 And now you must repent and turn back to God so that your sins will be removed, and so that times of refreshing will stream from the Lord’s presence.
Release:
It’s vital that we step into any new season unencumbered with the things of our past. No matter how fulfilling and fruitful past seasons may have been, they are gone. Embrace the now by letting go of anything that will halt our progress: fear, doubt, unforgiveness, toxic relationships and anything else the Holy Spirit may reveal.
Philipians 3:13 I don’t depend on my own strength to accomplish this; however I do have one compelling focus: I forget all of the past as I fasten my heart to the future instead.
Reorder:
What practical changes do we need to make on a daily basis that will bring us into alignment with God’s purposes for this season? Make the adjustments that bring spirit, soul and body in line with what God is now speaking.
