Nehemiah 9:7-8 “You are Adonai, the God who chose Abram, brought him from Ur of the Chaldeans and gave him the name Abraham. You found his heart faithful before You and made the covenant with him…”
Why is Abraham known as “a friend of YHWH?”
What did Abraham do to have these words “found his heart faithful?”
What did Abraham know that others did not?
What practical lessons can we use in the world in which we are in?
Matthew 25:21 His master said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful with a little, so I’ll put you in charge of much. Enter into your master’s joy!”
Abraham followed YHWH
Abraham built altars where he went
Abraham was an action taker
Abraham took YHWH at His word
Abraham trusted YHWH
Abraham had many “lessons learned.”
Psalm 37:3-5 Trust in Adonai and do good. Dwell in the land, feed on faithfulness. Delight yourself in Adonai, and He will give you the requests of your heart. Commit your way to Adonai. Trust in Him, and He will do it.
King Asa
Asa started off well, he did what was right in YHWH’S eyes
He removed the altars of foreign gods and high places, the Asherah poles, pillars and incense stands
2 Chronicles 14:2 He removed the foreign altars and the high places, smashed the pillars and cut down the Asherah poles.
2 Chronicles 15:17 Though the high places were not removed from Israel, still Asa’s heart was completely committed to Adonai all his days.
2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of Adonai range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose heart keeps covenant with Him. You have acted foolishly in this matter. Indeed, from now on you will have wars.
King Jehoshaphat
2 Chronicles 17:3-4 Adonai was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the first ways of his father David. He did not seek the Baalim but sought the God of his father, and walked in His mitzvot rather than the deeds of Israel.
Jehoshaphat was devoted to the ways of YHWH, he removed the high places and the Asherah poles
He had shalom because of his obedience
The Levites taught throughout Judah, they even had the Torah scroll.
Both Asa and Jehoshaphat walked with YHWH
Yet at times they leaned on their own understanding.
Abraham was no exception
All three worshiped YHWH
They inquired of YHWH often
They were obedient
They were men of action
Romans 4:3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”
