Leviticus 6:1 - 8:23
YHWH is a Consuming Fire

Leviticus 6:5-6  The fire on the altar is to be kept burning on it—it must not go out. Each morning the kohen is to burn wood on it, laying the burnt offering in order upon it, and burning up as smoke the fat of the fellowship offerings. Fire is to be kept burning on the altar continually—it must not go out.

A fire requires three elements in order for it to burn:

• Oxygen - Represents the Holy Spirit

• Fuel - We provide the fuel - We ARE the fuel

• Heat - The heat is “the trying of our faith.” Being a doer of the Word and standing for God through trials.

Total Independence:

John 3:4  “How can a man be born when he is old?” Nicodemus said to Him. “He cannot enter his mother’s womb a second time and be born, can he?”

Those outside of Yeshua rely on their own resources.

Claimed Dependence:

Luke 18:18  And a religious leader inquired of Yeshua, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

When we first come to Messiah we eagerly say “Yeshua I depend completely on You!!!!” Yet, we are oblivious to the fact we don’t know the first thing about dependence. We continue to rely on our own resources.

Realized Dependence:

Isaiah 38:3  He said: “Please, Adonai, remember how I have walked before You in truth and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in Your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

This happens when Yeshua reveals to us how utterly dependent we are upon Him, we embrace the truth that we can do nothing without Him. This is when we cry out to Him.

John 15:5  “I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for apart from Me, you can do nothing.

Desperate Dependence:

Esther 4:16  “Go! Gather together all the Jews who are in Shushan and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast in the same way. Afterwards, I will go in to the king, even though it is not according to the law. So if I perish, I perish!”

This level of dependence, is achieved only through the purposeful formation of The Spirit of YHWH. He leads us into a wilderness experience which He creates specifically and personally for just us.

Song of Solomon 8:5  Who is this coming up from the wilderness leaning on her lover? Under the apple tree I roused you. There your mother travailed with you. There she who was in labor gave you birth.

By the time He is done with us, we hopefully will have learned this ultimate expression of dependence. One indicator that we’ve come to a place of desperate dependence is this: time spent with Yeshua in prayer is no longer a discipline, nor is it merely a delight, prayer has become for us a matter of survival.

King Hezekiah is prime example of someone who recognized his need to claim dependence and realized dependence, yet he did not come to desperate dependence.

He was a godly leader, purged the land of idolatry. He was a military leader. He led the nation in spiritual reform.

Yet, one can love Yeshua very much, and yet still miss His highest purposes for life.

YHWH delivered Judah from the Assyrians. (Isaiah 37:36)

Isaiah went to Hezekiah and told him to ”get your house in order.” Hezekiah prayed and was given 15 more years to live. (Isaiah 38:1-5)

The King of Babylon sent letters and a gift because he heard Hezekiah had recovered from his illness. (Isaiah 39:1)

Hezekiah shows the messengers all of his Kingdom, the gold, silver, all his possessions. (Isaiah 39:2)

Isaiah tells Hezekiah everything his ancestors had obtained before will be carried away to Babylon and his descendants will be taken captive and become eunuchs. (Isaiah 39:5-7)

Hezekiah’s response to “The Word of YHWH”

Isaiah 39:8  Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of Adonai which you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “For there will be shalom and security in my days.”

YHWH was testing Hezekiah’s heart

2 Chronicles 32:31  But when the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon were sent to him to inquire about the wonder that had happened in the land, God left him alone to test him, to know all that was in his heart.
